about
This bluesy song (complete with 'gravel-flu style' voice) highlights the cruel detention of innocent refugees by our callous Australian Government for too many years. I dedicate this song to Joy Tatnell (dear mum), who worked tirelessly for release of refugees, well into her 80s. Joy was nominated for South Australia's senior citizen of the year for her work.
lyrics
ONE OF THOSE DAYS - Bill Tatnell
Wake up, wake your sleepy head
Wake this land of the living dead
Down hearted, feeling shame
Guess its one of those lockdown days
Locked in a prison by catch 22
Numb, abandoned, what can they do?
Captured image, front page news
Perpetual lonely lockdown blues
Chorus 1
Guess its one of those days
Shipwrecked souls in a red tape maze
Small change, no change, same old same
Another one of those perpetual lonely lockdown days
A seven-year hell, no end in sight
No crime, no justice, or human rights
‘Fair go’ mate, what’s going on?
When we know a week of lockdown is way too long
Chorus 2
Families running from a civil war
Detained for years off our tropical shore
‘Lucky Country’ lost its way
With ‘a fair go’ fading every single locked down day
Refrain
Desperate faces through a window pane
My mum says its torture by any other name
‘A fair go’ fading, the wattle is stained
By every single one of those lockdown days
A day seems a lifetime, nights are forever
Traumatised families should be together
Like endless lockdown, a bad taste stays
Swallow every minute every lockdown day
Chorus 1
Guess its one of those days
Shipwrecked souls in a red tape maze
Small change, no change, same old same
Another one of those perpetual lonely lockdown days
