about

This is a political piece with a rocky chorus - in true folk tradition, the song outlines the failure of our current Aussie leaders ('pale stale males') to address critical issues, such as climate change, safe workplaces for women, a voice for first people, media ownership and influence, wage disparity. the government is now stopping citizens from coming home because the federal government has failed its quarantine responsibilities..... This makes me just a little bit angry!.....

As the chorus goes ...."How good is this?" .......

Can you imagine Scotty singing this in his Hawiian shirt?

"I deserve a holiday - my democracy’s on fire
Dodging heavy lifting – has left me rather tired"......

Can only hope we see more diversity in our national leadership, some accountability, and real action on the big issues that shape our country.

lyrics

PALE STALE MALE
Bill Tatnell January 2021

I’m your emperor - without any clothes
I’m doing harm to others - less deserving I suppose
I’m always right - far right as it goes
Cos I’m a pale stale male - just like the one that you used to know

I wear my self-interest and privilege with pride
So pleased no one can see that Im so empty on the inside
With best friend Rupert - I can fake it or fight it
Im a pale stale male – I’m sure I will get knighted
I’m always right – far right as it goes

Chorus
How good - how good is this?
Just making it up as I go
Pretending I’m a shepherd – not a silly old goat
I’m a pale, stale male – just like the one you used to know

Do unto others - or they will do it to you
The climate’s changing - for us privileged few?
Its just not cricket - as our headlines crow
We’re the pale, stale men, how we love to tell you what you need to know

‘Inclusive’ is something - I refuse to comprehend
“Devisive” works better - for pale stale men
Never will admit - our many failures though
Cos we’re pale stale men - the red head they said
“Just has to go”

I deserve a holiday - my democracy’s on fire
Dodging heavy lifting – has left me rather tired
You say I live on stolen land – not history that I know
I’m a pale, stale male - I cant believe you said “its time, for me to go!”
